FAQ
Why use a Private Evaluator?
Schools, hospitals and clinics can have long waiting lists, cumbersome processes and even refuse requests to have your child evaluated. I offer fast turnaround times (i.e., completed results no later than 2 weeks after testing), evaluations tailored specifically to the concerns you have for your child, minimal to no wait list, personalized consultation and recommendations for school, home or other relevant settings. Saltsman Psychological can provide a second opinion when you do not agree with the results of school-based or other clinical evaluations and provide a clinical diagnosis from both the DSM-5 and ICD. A clinical diagnosis for your child can create opportunities and access to both school and clinical resources (e.g., county services, 504 accommodations, etc.); whereas schools are narrowly focused on special education criteria and cannot provide clinical diagnoses (e.g., ADHD).
.
How long does testing typically take?
Full evaluation ranges from 4-7 hours. It is typically less for younger children.
I encourage splitting the testing into two sessions to ensure the most accurate results of skill and ability.
How should I prepare my child for testing?
My advice would be to keep it simple and positive:
“We are going to learn about how your brain works and if there are things that mommy, daddy,
grandma, grandpa, teachers, etc. can do differently to better help you when you need it.”
Avoid the use of the word 'test'.
The evaluation is comprised of several activities and tasks; some fun and novel and some more school like.
Get a good night sleep the night before.
Bring some small snacks and a drink.
Dress comfortably.
If they are fearful or anxious, they are welcome to bring a comfort item.
When should I expect testing results?
A feedback session will be scheduled approximately 2-3 weeks from the final dates of testing.
Sessions are usually 90 minutes. A full written report with recommendations will be provided.
